Why is it so important to eat whole grains?

Why are whole grains important? Eating whole grains provides fiber that helps keep you full.  Consuming a diet high in whole grains is associated with lower incidence of diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Eating whole grains can also help you manage your weight. For more info, follow this link :http://www.choosemyplate.gov/food-groups/grains-why.html
How to choose whole grains: Chose 100% whole grain bread and pasta, brown rice, quinoa, oatmeal, barley, bulgur, whole grain tortillas, popcorn and whole grain cereals. Avoid white bread, white rice, regular pasta, cookies, cake, muffins and most crackers. If the label says “enriched wheat flour” it is NOT whole grain. Even if the bread is brown, it does NOT mean that it is whole grain. It must say 100% whole grain. Read the ingredient label to help you make good grain choices. What about “White Wheat”? This is whole grain flour milled from spring white wheat instead of red wheat. It is a whole grain. If you prefer the white whole wheat, it is a good choice. Read labels carefully to make sure that is what you are getting.
