About Me

Note from Maria: I am a Registered Dietitian with a Master of Public Health Degree in Nutrition from UNC at Chapel Hill. I have a passion for helping people with nutrition & wellness, especially moms. Women & moms provide care for everyone else often at the expense of considering their own needs. I hope to provide good resources to you to help you make nutrition and wellness a priority.

Happy RD Day

Today is National Registered Dietitian Day....a great day to learn about what a dietitian can do for you. Registered Dietitians are food and nutrition experts that can help people with a wide variety of health related nutrition concerns.  A Registered Dietitian (RD) can provide nutrition advice for any of the following areas/conditions:

  • Healthy eating patterns
  • Losing Weight
  • Sports nutrition
  • Food Allergies/Intolerances/Celiac
  • Diabetes
  • Cancer
  • Heart Disease
  • Renal Disease
  • Cystic Fibrosis
  • Organ Transplants
  • Nutrition in pregnancy
  • School nutrition programs
  • Wellness programs
  • and a lot more!
We can work in hospitals, doctors offices, clinics, school systems, health departments/WIC, nursing homes, long term care facilities, fitness clubs, grocery chains, or food companies. We can do accomplish wide variety of activities such as helping you learn behavior change for healthy habits or determine what type of tube feeding you need if you are unable to eat for a period of time. Most people associate dietitians with helping people lose weight, we can do that and a lot more! Someone who is a Registered Dietitian meets specific education, internship requirements and must pass an exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. Note that people calling themselves nutritionists are not held to this standard. To my RD friends, Happy RD Day!!
